Club Ambassador Ledley King unveiled a locally produced map of Enfield’s Green Belt on Friday afternoon (25 November) which is now proudly on display at Gordon Hill train station.
The map, which has been joint funded by the Club and Enfield Poets, showcases the broad range of outdoor activities on offer across Enfield Borough, from Forty Hall to Trent Country Park. The Club’s Training Centre is also featured on the map produced by local artist Camilla Charnock.
After congratulating all of those involved in the project, Ledley was presented with a special copy of the map on the station platform alongside John Coles from the Friends of Gordon Hill Station group who commissioned the piece.
It is hoped that the map will encourage passengers to explore the Green Belt across Enfield. The project has been supported by Enfield Society, a heritage and conservation group that works to promote the local environment.
The Club has a long-term commitment to enhancing the local environment in Enfield, sponsoring the annual Enfield in Bloom Awards and establishing an ecological habitat at its Hotspur Way Training Centre - planting hundreds of new trees and thousands of new hedges and plants, creating a wildflower meadow, bug hotels, bat houses and an attenuation pond to attract wildlife.
Speaking after the event, Ledley said: "I was delighted to unveil the map and meet with so many groups passionate about Enfield. The Club has a long track record of supporting local projects and this map demonstrates just how lucky we are to have so much on our doorstep."
John Coles, Trustee of Enfield Society and member of the Friends of Gordon Hill Station, said: "It was fantastic to welcome Ledley to Gordon Hill to unveil our map which we think is an incredibly interesting and useful way to showcase Enfield. We have much to be proud of in our community."
