Heung-Min Son surprised local students last week when he visited a Tottenham Hotspur Foundation session at Lea Valley Academy School, Enfield.

Sonny met with over 15 students who are participating in the Foundation’s Premier League Inspires programme, which uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football to help ensure students reach their full potential.

The aim of the programme is to inspire children and young people to develop the personal skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to succeed.

Throughout May, the year seven students have been working on a project exploring why families should visit South Korea on holiday and last week, Premier League Golden Boot winner Sonny surprised the students during their lesson to view their presentations and help pick a winner.

During the session, the group had the chance to hear Sonny talking about Korean culture including, his favourite food, music, and activities. Sonny also had the opportunity to teach the students some key phrases in Korean including, ‘hello’, ‘thank you’, and ‘Come On You Spurs!’

Speaking after the session, Sonny said, “It was great to visit Lea Valley Academy recently and see first-hand the brilliant work Tottenham Hotspur Foundation does. The students did a great job on their projects and really showcased all the best reasons why families should visit South Korea – I hope they continue to keep up the good work!”

Mr S J Kinson, Head Teacher at Lea Valley Academy, commented, The Tottenham Foundation Inspires programme was a great experience for the students and really helped develop their confidence. The amazing work put in by the staff during the ten weeks was topped off by a very special visit from Heung-Min Son, the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner!

“Sonny was great with the students, listening to their presentations and choosing his favourite South Korean inspired kit designs. We are so grateful that we were able to offer this valuable experience to our students and the time and effort given by Spurs. The programme and visit will live long in the memory of the students involved.”

One of the students added, “It was a complete surprise to have Sonny join us for our lesson last week but, as a Spurs fan, it was an incredible opportunity. Hearing him talk about South Korea was very interesting and I hope to be able to visit in the future.”
