To coincide with National Conversations Week, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is putting Spurs at the heart of conversations across the community by launching a telephone friendship circle.

The programme “Let’s Talk About Spurs” is aimed at older adults who wish to participate in a weekly 45-minute facilitated phone conversation with other Spurs fans from the comfort of their own home.

Running for10 consecutive weeks, the telephone friendship circle is a fun way to meet and get to know new friends where the common theme is Spurs. Participants will have the opportunity to have general conversations about their favourite football club, as well as connecting on a range of other topics and sharing their own stories and experiences.

Club Ambassador Gary Mabbutt will also be taking part in the programme. Our former captain has called over 3,000 vulnerable and elderly Spurs fans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since March, 2020, Gary, who made 629 appearances for us between 1982 and 1998, has been making daily phone calls to vulnerable and elderly supporters who have been isolating or celebrating special occasions.

The programme is being delivered by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation – the Club’s own charitable arm that is dedicated to creating-life changing opportunities for people across its local community and beyond – in partnership with Haringey Circle. The service is free and open to people of all ages.

Gary said: “Football is a powerful tool for bringing people together. Talking to someone for just a few minutes can have a hugely positive impact on their day and remind people that they are not alone. After what has been an incredibly challenging time for so many over the past couple of years, being able to speak with our fans has been incredibly worthwhile and, through the telephone friendship circle, I look forward to speaking to many more.”
