Drew Spence: ‘This is the place I wanted to be!’

Sun 26 June 2022, 18:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs Women’s latest recruit Drew Spence knows what it takes to win.

A midfielder who has enjoyed a trophy-laden career in the game to date, Drew joined us on a contract until 2024 on Monday (20 June) with the desire to build on her silverware success in our colours.

The Jamaica international's move to north London sees her end a fruitful 14-year stay with Chelsea where, after having progressed through their ranks before making a record 238 appearances in blue, Drew became the Club’s longest-serving player as well as its most decorated, lifting 11 major honours in her time in west London, including five league titles, three FA Cups and two Continental League Cups.

Now embarking on a new chapter in her career with us, the 29-year-old is hoping she can bring all of her title-winning experience to our Women’s First Team as we look to build on a momentous 2021/22 campaign.

“It feels amazing (to be here). I'm really excited. It’s a new chapter for me and this is the place I wanted to be, so I'm really excited for the future,” Drew said in her first interview as a Spurs player.

“I was at Chelsea for a long time and I needed to really challenge myself and make sure I got something new. It was time for me to move on and everyone's got to have a new challenge, and I think this is the right place for me to do it.

"I've seen how much (the team has) progressed over the last few seasons and they've been challenging with teams at the top, so I think it was the right move for me and somewhere where I can really bring my experience

“I know how to win titles. I know what it's like to be in a dressing room where there's a winning mentality everyday and that's hopefully what I can bring here and give that experience to the girls.”
