Internationals - Sonny marks 100th cap with a goal for South Korea, Pierre on target

Tue 07 June 2022, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Heung-Min Son celebrated a special day with a special goal as South Korea beat Chile 2-0 in a friendly on Monday.

It was Sonny’s 100th cap for his country and, as always, last season’s Golden Boot winner delivered - this time with a free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards to secure victory in added time. Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan also scored a cracker to open the scoring at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium.

Now the proud captain of his country, Sonny’s first cap was back in 2010. Moving to Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015, he’s earned 56 of his 100 caps during his time at the Club. He’s represented the Taegeuk Warriors at two World Cups, 2014 and 2018, where he secured a famous win against Germany, and will lead his country into his third finals in Qatar in November.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was on target as Denmark made it two impressive wins out of two in the UEFA Nations League - following up Friday's win in France with a 2-1 victory over Austria in Vienna. Pierre started and finished the move that put the Danes 1-0 up on 27 minutes, switching play right to Rasmus Nissen Kristensen before darting into the box to convert the cross. That was his fifth goal in 55 caps. Austria levelled before Jens Stryger Larsen won it seven minutes from time. Denmark top Group One of League A after two matches.

As Ben Davies and Joe Rodon were enjoying qualifying for the World Cup with Wales on Sunday, Dejan Kulusevski was in UEFA Nations League action for Sweden against Norway. ‘Deki’ played another full shift and picked up another assist, but it wasn’t to be this time as Norway ran out 2-1 winners in Stockholm, with Erling Haaland netting both goals.

Davinson Sanchez started a completed the 90 minutes as Colombia beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 in a friendly in Murcia, Spain on Sunday. That was his 48th cap.

Cristian Romero and Gio Lo Celso weren’t involved in Argentina’s 5-0 win against Estonia - but it’s a match young defender Maksim Paskotsi won’t forget in a hurry. Maksim started and played a full shift for Estonia as Lionel Messi ran riot - scoring all five goals in Argentina’s 5-0 win at Osasuna’s El Sadar Stadium in Spain.
