Ashleigh Neville: “I can’t think of a better time to be honest”

Tue 15 February 2022, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Ashleigh Neville is loving footballing life at the moment.

The all-action full-back has been seen flying up and down both flanks to great effect in recent weeks for Spurs Women.

Last weekend, she made an instant impact off the bench, scoring the second goal in our 4-0 win against Brighton in the Women’s Super League. Then, on Sunday, she started on the left, switched to the right and ran Birmingham City ragged in another vital WSL win.

Ashleigh could even have bagged a hat-trick on another day - she crucially made the breakthrough on 66 minutes, hit the crossbar, fired just wide from the angle and forced Blues goalkeeper Emily Ramsey into a full-stretch save to turn away her 25 yarder.

It was no surprise, therefore, that she then provided the cross for the game-clinching second goal, headed down by Rachel Williams for Ria Percival to score on 86 minutes. At full-time, it was put to her that it looks like she’s having the time of her life…

It’s nice to be up there, getting in front of goal and, hopefully, the more I do that, the more goals will come.

“It’s amazing, I can’t think of a better time of my life to be honest,” stated ‘Ash’. “I’m enjoying every day going into train, enjoying the games, the girls are great, and Rehanne and the staff are amazing. It’s nice to be up there, getting in front of goal and, hopefully, the more I do that, the more goals will come.

“We’d been talking about finishing this group of games before the international break with a win. We know the first half wasn’t the best, but we made changes at half-time and came out and showed what we’re all about – a clean sheet, two goals and it’s great to be back up to third in the table.”

Ashleigh was well aware of the importance of winning this final game before the international break with our next fixture not until a WSL trip to Reading on Sunday 6 March – the table will make nice reading until then…

“It’s massive because we’ve gone into previous international breaks with our heads down, but we’re going into this one very positive,” she added. “It’s a little bit of a break for a few players, there’s a few players away but we’ll group back together and kick on for the second half of the season.”
