Team news ahead of Wolves – Romero latest, Lenglet back

Thu 18 August 2022, 16:03|Tottenham Hotspur

Clement Lenglet is fit again and available for our Premier League clash against Wolves on Saturday (12.30pm), but Cristian Romero is set to miss out.

France defender Clement was sidelined for last weekend’s trip to Chelsea with a slight muscle injury, but he’s back in the fold having trained this week. However, ‘Cuti’ picked up an injury at Stamford Bridge and although he completed the 90 minutes, Antonio will not take a risk with the centre-back.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after training on Thursday, Antonio told us: “Clement had a training session with us and he’s okay, he’s available for Wolverhampton.

“Cuti had a little problem during the game against Chelsea on Sunday. He finished the game, but at the end he felt a bit of pain in his adductor, not a serious problem, but for this game it will be better for him to miss as a precaution. We are starting to play a lot of games, eight games in the next month, and to take a risk would be stupid, so he’s not available for this game.

“At the end of this week, Oliver Skipp will start to run. All the other players are okay.”

Speaking further on Skippy in his pre-match press conference, Antonio added: “I hope this player to be a bit lucky because since January he started to have a problem. I think hopefully he will be ready quickly. We need his performance, he’s a really good guy, and for sure he’s suffering a lot to stay outside, but I think for the period where we have to play a lot of games, he will be available, which is really good news for us.”

After Wolves, we have a clear week ahead of the trip to Forest next Sunday (28 August, 4.30pm) before having midweek games up to the mid-season break for the World Cup in November. That includes all six matches in the Champions League group stages (the draw is next Thursday, 25 August), West Ham (31 August) and Manchester United (19 October) away in the Premier League, plus the third round of the Carabao Cup.
