Antonio Conte is hopeful the injury that forced Matt Doherty to depart the action early at Villa Park is ‘nothing serious’.

The wing-back was left clutching his knee after a robust challenge from Matt Cash after six minutes of our 4-0 victory on Saturday evening. He tried to carry on but needed treatment twice before finally calling it a day on 20 minutes, when he was replaced by Sergio Reguilon.

It was such a shame for the Republic of Ireland international, who had been in flying form of late.

Speaking to us from Villa Park, Antonio said: “Matt tried to continue to stay on the pitch. This showed his resilience, his desire to continue to play. I hope it’s nothing serious, because we need him. Now, we have to wait one day, two days, and the doctors have to check him. I don’t think it’s anything serious, I hope.”
