Internationals – Kane on target, Reguilon joins Spain squad

Mon 06 September 2021, 09:35|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane stepped off the bench to score his 40th goal for England as Gareth Southgate’s men continued their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-0 win over Andorra at Wembley on Sunday.

Named as a substitute as manager Gareth Southgate made 11 changes from last week’s win over Hungary by the same scoreline, Harry was introduced on 62 minutes in place of debutant Patrick Bamford and 10 minutes later was on target from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 after Mason Mount had been fouled in the box. Jesse Lingard subsequently scored his second of the game before Bukayo Saka wrapped it up late on.

Elsewhere in World Cup qualifying, Ben Davies played 90 minutes for Wales as ex-Spur Gareth Bale’s hat-trick saw them to a 3-2 victory away to Belarus, Pierluigi Gollini was an unused substitute for Italy in their goalless draw in Switzerland and Davinson Sanchez played 90 minutes for Colombia in their 1-1 draw in Paraguay.

Young defender Maksim Paskotsi completed the full game for Estonia as they went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Northern Ireland in a friendly.

Meanwhile, left-back Sergio Reguilon has been called into the Spain squad for their World Cup qualifier away to Kosovo on Wednesday evening.

Youth action on Sunday saw Under-18s players Alfie Dorrington and Tom Bloxham start for England Under-17s as they beat Portugal 2-1 in the Syrenka Cup, where they’ll now advance to meet the Netherlands in the final on Tuesday. Rio Kyerematen was among the substitutes for the Young Lions.

Having started Wales Under-17s’ 1-1 draw with Scotland on Thursday, defender Will Andiyapan wasn’t included in the Welsh squad for Sunday’s 4-3 victory against the same opponents.
