Nuno Espirito Santo could only reflect what he described as a 'very disappointing' evening as we fell to a 3-0 defeat against Manchester United in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

It was an even game until Cristiano Ronaldo volleyed United in front on 39 minutes - Heung-Min Son went close, Cristian Romero had a goal disallowed - but we couldn’t get into gear again in the second half as Edinson Cavani doubled the visitors’ lead on 64 minutes and Marcus Rashford completed the scoring four minutes from time.

“It was a very tough afternoon, very disappointing,” said Nuno. “We didn’t perform as we wanted. I truly believe that we are better than what we showed today.

“We started the game well, didn’t really create much but had situations where we could have done better. We conceded a goal that we knew, a situation that United create after a second phase and, after that, we started the second half very badly. We didn’t recover the momentum of the game.”

Asked if he had a message for our fans, Nuno responded: “What can we say? It’s the reality. When our fans don’t see what they expect, what they want, they are going to show to you, they are going to boo.

“We have to be strong and accept it, recognise that it’s not words that are going to take away the anger they are experiencing at this moment, only actions. We have to do much better in our actions on Thursday (Vitesse at home in the UEFA Europa Conference League) and the next one (Everton away in the Premier League next Sunday) so we can change this around.

“All the games are important, Thursday, the next one and after that, the next one. We have to stick together. It’s the only way. Let’s try to stick together.”
