Loan round-up – Etete on song with first league and FA Cup goals, Bowden opens account

On-loan Kion Etete is enjoying a fine run of form at Northampton Town after scoring three goals in their last five games, including his first league and FA Cup goals.

Kicking-off his run of strikes with his first professional league goal in Northampton’s 3-0 win over Stevenage in League Two on 19 October, Kion swiftly latched onto a knock down and shrugged off the attentions of a defender before firing firmly through the goalkeeper’s hands and into the corner of the net on 34 minutes.

In his next outing for the Cobblers, he struck once more as he volleyed home seven minutes into the second half against Tranmere to set Northampton on their way to a 2-0 win. The 19-year-old then provided his first assist of the season in the following game as his side breezed past Carlisle 3-0. A week later, Kion scored and assisted in the same match for the first time in his professional career to help his side earn a replay in the FA Cup first round following a 2-2 draw with League One outfit Cambridge United.

Elsewhere in League Two, Jamie Bowden scored his first-ever professional goal on Saturday as Oldham Athletic narrowly fell 2-1 to high-flying Exeter City. With his side trailing 2-0, the midfielder set up a grandstand finish with six minutes remaining in Devon with a fierce dipping strike from the edge of the box, however his side were ultimately unable to find their desired equaliser. Having endured a slow start in Greater Manchester, Jamie has since started in each of the Owls' last six league games while he has also begun to show his creativity with two assists to his name in his last five appearances.

In League One, Troy Parrott has also been showing his creative side as of late, having provided four assists in his last seven league starts for MK Dons. In that run, Troy also earned all three points for his side against Wycombe Wanderers as he scored the only goal of the game as MK edged their Buckinghamshire neighbours 1-0 – having been fouled in the box to win a penalty on 39 minutes, the Irish international then dusted himself down before dispatching the spot-kick. He has since added a fifth goal to his tally for the campaign as he found the back of the net against Aston Villa’s Under-21s in a 4-2 Papa John's Trophy defeat at the end of October.

Remaining in the third tier, J’Neil Bennett continues to play his part in Crewe Alexandra’s battle for survival. The winger has appeared in all bar three of the Alex’s last 13 games in League One and made his FA Cup debut in the Cheshire side’s first round defeat to Swindon.

Outside of England, Cameron Carter-Vickers is going from strength to strength with Celtic. The centre-back has started all 13 of the Celts’ Scottish Premiership games this season and already has two goals to his name, having recently found the back of the net in his side’s 3-1 win over Hibernian on 27 October. He has also started each of Celtic’s Europa League group stage games. The Bhoys currently sit third in Group G, a point off Real Betis in second and four behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Next up for Cameron and Celtic is the Scottish League Cup semi-final on 20 November as they take on St Johnstone at Hampden Park.

In France, Pape Matar Sarr has started 10 of Metz’s 13 league games so far this term and has been deployed from the bench in each of their last three. Meanwhile in Sweden, since his mid-season arrival, Alfie Whiteman has started each of Degerfors’ last 11 Allsvenskan games and earned his first clean sheet last month in their 0-0 draw with Varbergs BolS. Degerfors are currently occupying the relegation play-off spot in Sweden’s top flight, two points behind Halmstad with three games to go.

Spurs Women’s Gracie Pearse scored her first-ever professional goal on 10 October as she struck against Coventry United for Crystal Palace Women. Coming with the scores poised at 1-1, the defender popped up in the box with a fierce strike on 53 minutes to put the Eagles ahead - they went on to edge their opponents 3-2 in the Women’s Championship clash. Gracie has now played six times for the south London side, having made her debut in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland Ladies in September.

Eleanor Heeps, meanwhile, has been recalled from her loan spell at Blackburn Rovers. Joining Rovers in August, the goalkeeper made two appearances for the Lancashire side before returning to north London last week. She has been named as a substitute in each of our Women’s first team's last two league games.
