Markanday shortlisted for Premier League 2 Player of the Month

Mon 10 May 2021, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Attacking midfielder Dilan Markanday has been named on a six-man shortlist for April’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The 19-year-old, who was named in a first team matchday squad for the first time during February’s 4-0 home win over Wolfsberger AC in the Europa League, returned two goals and two assists across his three appearances for our Under-23s last month.

Having scored our equaliser in an eventual 3-1 win at Leicester City on 12 April, he came off the bench to set up Alfie Devine before adding his own name to the scoresheet as we registered a fantastic 4-1 victory over Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 11 days later.

Back in the starting line-up at Manchester City on 30 April, it was from one of Dilan’s dangerous set-pieces that Brooklyn Lyons-Foster headed home our goal in what turned out to be a 4-1 defeat to the divisional champions.

Also shortlisted for April’s award are Danny Cashman of Brighton & Hove Albion, Sunderland’s Josh Hawkes, Ademipo Odubeko of West Ham United, Manchester City’s Cole Palmer and Crysencio Summerville of Leeds United.

The shortlist was determined by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel after club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposition player in each of their league matches during last month. The panel will also decide the winner.

Following Friday’s final round of Premier League 2 fixtures, we have finished third in the table, amassing 38 points from 24 games.
