Bale and Bergwijn up for May Premier League awards

Tue 25 May 2021, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Gareth Bale and Steven Bergwijn are in contention for two of the Premier League’s monthly awards.

Forward Gareth has been shortlisted for May’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month prize after scoring five goals in as many games, including a sparkling hat-trick against Sheffield United and a late match-winning brace at Leicester City on the last day of the season.

His treble in our 4-0 home win over the Blades on 2 May came on the first of three consecutive starts, before the Real Madrid loanee stepped off the bench in our last two games against Aston Villa and Leicester, firing home two late goals to give us a 4-2 win at the King Power Stadium on 23 May to secure our place in Europe for next term.

Joining the Welsh international in the running for the award are Liverpool’s Alisson and Sadio Mane, Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke, Nicolas Pepe of Arsenal, Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale, Rodrigo of Leeds United and Newcastle United’s Joe Willock.

Dutch attacker Steven, meanwhile, is up for May’s Budweiser Goal of the Month after his thunderous finish against Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 19 May.

Moving quick as a flash to steal the ball after a heavy touch from Marvelous Nakamba 35 yards from goal, he broke to the edge of the area and hammered past Emiliano Martinez for his first goal of the season. His strike put us in front, but unfortunately we lost the game 2-1.

Also in contention for the award are Danny Welbeck (for Brighton & Hove Albion against Leeds), Bertrand Traore (for Aston Villa against Manchester United), Nicolas Pepe (for Arsenal against West Bromwich Albion), Luke Thomas (for Leicester at Manchester United), Ferran Torres (first goal for Manchester City at Newcastle), Edinson Cavani (for Manchester United against Fulham) and Phil Foden (for Manchester City at Brighton).

As usual, fan votes will help to decide the winners - cast your votes via the links below to give your backing to Gareth and Steven in their respective categories. Voting closes at 6pm UK on Wednesday (26 May).
