Gareth Bale surprises members of our official Indian supporters’ clubs

Gareth Bale surprised members of our 15 Official Supporters’ Clubs in India when he unexpectedly joined a video call to lead a quiz on his career.
The fans, representing cities and regions across India, were left in shock when one of their all-time Spurs heroes appeared as they spoke about their memories of the Club’s first UEFA Champions League campaign in the 2010/11 season, in which the Welshman played a key role.

• Members were invited on a video call expecting to be interviewed by the Club journalist.
• Little did they know, one of their all-time Spurs heroes was to make a surprise appearance.
• Welsh international led a quiz on his career, with the winner awarded a signed shirt.
Bale, now back at the Club for a second spell following a loan move from Real Madrid last September, tested the fans’ knowledge with questions on key moments of his career.
The 31-year-old deemed Mayank Periwal, representing Kolkata Spurs, as the winner of the quiz, awarding him a signed shirt.
Our following in India is growing rapidly, with Official Supporters’ Clubs now in Assam, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Imphal, Kerala, Kolkata, Mangalore, Mizoram, Mumbai, Pune and Shillong.
The central India Spurs Supporters’ Club has been established since 2012, while we launched a localised Twitter account, @Spurs_India, in 2014.
At the end of the video call, Bale said: “We want to thank you on behalf of the Club for being great fans and supporting us from far away.”
