Five-goal win for Legends at Maidstone

Tue 13 July 2021, 19:26|Tottenham Hotspur

The Spurs Legends side made it back-to-back wins with a 5-0 victory over a team of military veterans, police officers and NHS paramedics at Maidstone United FC on Sunday (11 July).

Mark Falco opened the scoring with his third goal in two games before ex-reserve team midfielder Mark Hughes stole the show, adding to his first-half penalty with a hat-trick in the second period to take his overall tally for the day to four.

At the other end, centre-back Chris Perry enjoyed a clean sheet on his return to the side as he partnered Legends team stalwart Stuart Nethercott in the heart of the defence.

Taking on a specially-assembled team representing Rock 2 Recovery – an organisation that aims to save and change the lives of those in our Armed Forces, the veteran community and their families who are affected by stress – the Legends made a fast start, Jeff Minton hitting the bar before Falco’s crisp left-footed strike from the edge of the area sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net inside four minutes.

Hughes made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after 19 minutes then doubled his tally on the hour mark, but it was only some last-ditch defending from Nethercott and Falco that prevented the Legends’ opponents from finding the net a few minutes later.

Hughes scored twice more in the latter stages to round off another positive outing for the Legends, following their big win over the North West Spurs Official Supporters’ Club in Cheadle last month.

Clive Wilson, Brian Statham and Kevin Watson were among the ex-players also on duty.
