White nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month

Thu 07 January 2021, 12:02|Tottenham Hotspur

Young midfielder Harvey White has been shortlisted for December’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The 19-year-old played a starring role in all three of our Under-23s’ league matches before Christmas as we bounced back from a trio of successive defeats in November to take six points from a possible nine, putting us fourth in the table.

First up was a 3-2 victory at Blackburn Rovers on 7 December, where Harvey provided an assist for Kion Etete’s opener before himself scoring from the penalty spot.

A further assist followed a week later – an inch-perfect cross for Dane Scarlett to head home – as we surged into a 2-0 lead at Chelsea, only to let our advantage slip and end up losing 3-2.

Made captain for the last game before Christmas at Liverpool on 19 December, the central midfielder weighed in with more assists as we won a thriller, Jack Clarke sensationally giving us a 4-3 victory in stoppage time. Harvey provided the crosses for both of Jubril Okedina’s goals during the game, while Brooklyn Lyons-Foster was able to score after Harvey’s free-kick came back off the crossbar.

Harvey, who also put pen to paper on a new contract with the Club until 2024 last month, made his competitive first team debut in November when he came off the bench in our 4-0 home win over Ludogorets in the UEFA Europa League and most recently was named among the substitutes in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final win over Brentwood as we secured our place in the Wembley final.

He’s joined in contention for the Premier League 2 award by Chelsea’s Faustino Anjorin and Lewis Bate, Blackburn’s Harry Chapman and Brad Lyons, plus Folarin Balogun of Arsenal and Nathan Tella of Southampton.

The shortlist was determined by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel after club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposition player in each of their league matches during last month. The panel will also decide the winner.
