Opportunity knocks for Joe Rodon - and he knows he has to grasp every chance that comes his way.

The Welsh international centre-back has started two of our last three matches and returned to the Premier League fold in our 3-1 win against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Joe impressed again alongside Eric Dier in his sixth appearance in all competitions. Indeed, David McGoldrick’s header to briefly bring the Blades back into the game at 2-1 on the hour was the first goal Joe has conceded in a Spurs shirt after stints against Burnley (1-0), City (2-0), Arsenal (2-0), Chelsea (0-0) and Marine (5-0).

Ineligible for the group stage of the Europa League and cup-tied in the Carabao Cup after playing for Swansea in the first round, chances have been limited for Joe, who made his full debut in the Premier League against Chelsea in November.

Every team is so difficult. We have to give our all and we were delighted to get the three points

“This is a top club with top players, so for me to come into this environment and learn alongside these players every day is only going to improve me as a player,” he told us at Bramall Lane.

“I’m grateful and delighted to be part of it. I’ve got to keep working hard every day, try to show the coaching staff that I can be involved more often and when the chances come along, I’ve got to be confident and try to take them.”

Tanguy Ndombele’s moment of genius for our third goal quickly ended Sheffield United’s hopes of a revival as we ran out deserved winners on Sunday, extending our run to just two defeats in the last 19 in all competitions.

“Things haven’t gone our way at times of late and I just thought it was a brilliant reaction,” added Joe. “We went after them from the start, implemented our style on the game and we were delighted to get the three points. Now it’s on to the next one!”

The 'next one' takes Joe to a place he’ll be familiar with as we travel to Wycombe in the FA Cup fourth round on Monday evening (7.45pm). Joe, who started our third round win at Marine, played for Swansea in a 2-0 win at Adams Park in the Championship in September before joining us in October.
