Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg laid it on the line after our 1-1 draw against Fulham in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
Everything looked rosy as Harry Kane headed home Sergio Reguilon’s cross to open the scoring on 25 minutes. Further chances came and went and as Fulham grew into the game in the second half, Heung-Min Son struck the inside of the post on 70 minutes. Four minutes later, Ivan Cavaleiro headed home what proved to be the equaliser, and another frustrating draw for us.
“A tough night,” said Pierre. “Disappointed at the one point, disappointed not to keep a clean sheet, disappointed not to keep control of the game better than we did, and that doesn’t mean we have to stand and defend in our own box, no, it means the team as a unit has to be solid, has to be compact, has to be working together with closed lines, short spaces between each other, and I don’t think we did that in the second half.
“On the other hand, with the ball, defending with the ball doesn’t mean you just have to pass around, it means you have to pass the ball around with a target and control the game, and we didn’t do that.
“So, there are many small details that are disappointing tonight. Then again, I’m very happy there is a game in three days. I’m happy we can show a reaction, I’m happy we that we can show we’re hungry and very ambitious, that we still have a lot to do. Luckily, like I said, there is a game in three days where we can show a reaction and keep going.
“We need to look forward, we need to keep our heads high and we need to know that this is not good enough. We do know that, and we will push.”
