Cho speaks on her move to Spurs Women

New Spurs Women arrival So-hyun Cho says she’s eager to get started on the pitch after completing her loan move from West Ham United.

The 32-year-old midfielder, the captain of the South Korean national team, has linked up with Rehanne Skinner’s side ahead of this weekend’s London derby at Chelsea in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Speaking for the first time after joining us on Friday, Cho expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome she’s received from our players and supporters alike – which included a special video message from her counterpart in the men’s South Korean national set-up, Heung-Min Son – and spoke about how she’s looking to help take our team to the next level in what is a highly-competitive division.

“I’m delighted to sign with Spurs and I’m looking forward to playing with my new team-mates and working with Rehanne,” smiled Cho, speaking to us in English despite Korean being her first language.

“I want to help my team-mates and I want us to get into the top five between now and the end of the season.

“I’m very excited to be here. I watched the video from Son – he is so kind, I can’t believe that he left me that message. I was very happy!”

Vastly experienced at international level, having skippered South Korea at the last two World Cups, Cho picked out one player in particular when asked about who she’s looking forward to working with on the pitch.

“I’m excited to play with (Alanna) Kennedy,” she explained, having come up against our Australian international midfielder for South Korea at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2018, and again earlier this month when we played West Ham in the WSL.

“I know her because I’ve played against Australia, so I’m excited to work with her and all my new team-mates.”

Meanwhile, Head Coach Rehanne says she’s thrilled to have secured Cho’s services as we look to build on three consecutive victories moving into a busy spell of fixtures.

The experience she has from all those major tournaments that she has been a part of and the leadership value that she adds will be huge for the team.

“I’m delighted that Cho’s here,” emphasised Rehanne. “We were looking for additional support in that midfield area to give us even more quality and technical ability on the ball. She is the South Korea national team captain and for us, all the experience she has from all those major tournaments that she has been a part of and the leadership value that she adds will be huge for the team.

“As a football club, obviously we have the two South Korea national team captains here which is probably unheard of in a lot of situations. That’s a huge asset for the Club and us as a team, and helps to show the direction we are trying to go in as a team moving forward.”
