A certain Mr Bale was flying when we took on Newcastle in the Premier League back in February, 2013.

Gareth, now back with us on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, scored twice in this fixture at the Lane, the first a trademark dipping free-kick inside five minutes, the second and winner all about his pace and a deadly finish in the second half. In-between, Yoan Gouffran levelled for the Toon.

That made it four goals in four games for the Welsh star, who would put together a run of 10 goals in eight matches in the Premier League and Europa League in a spell between the end of January and mid-March.

Indeed, his run to the end of the season from scoring at Norwich City on 30 January, 2013 was 20 goals in 18 games. He ended with 25 goals in 2012/13 as we finished fifth in the Premier League and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
