Shelina Zadorsky: “We only go up from here”

Spurs fans finally got to see summer recruit Shelina Zadorsky in action after she made her debut in our 1-0 defeat against Everton last Sunday (13 September).

Shelina, who arrived on loan with Alanna Kennedy from Orlando Pride last month, played alongside Kerys Harrop in central defence, making her first appearance for the Club and in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

With six months having passed since she last played a full game in the States, Shelina was thrilled to return to the field after so long and was delighted to make her debut for the Club, but couldn’t help but feel disappointed with the loss at Walton Park Hall, following Izzy Christiansen’s goal in the second half.

I think we really have to come out with more energy.

"I’m so honoured to wear this jersey and I feel grateful to be out there again,” Shelina commented. “It’s been since March when I last played 90 minutes, so it feels good to be back out there and I felt so supported. It’s a really great club to be a part of. I think we only go up from here.

"I think our second half was a little bit sharper, but overall, we need to put in a 90-minute performance. We came out a little bit flat I’d say, and there are no excuses. I think we really have to come out with more energy and flair in the attack and get some more creativity. Credit to everyone, we showed heart in the second half when we tried to get a goal, but I think we can be better from the start."

Following the news last week that the Club have completed the transfer of two-time Women’s World Cup winner Alex Morgan, Shelina believes her former Orlando Pride team-mate’s qualities and experience will boost the team ahead of some tough upcoming fixtures for Karen Hills and Juan Amoros’ side.

"Obviously, Alex is an incredible player and I’ve known her for a while now and she’s an awesome person,” Shelina continued. “I think just her calibre and her level of experience, internationally and at clubs, will both add so much value to the team. I think she can really be a leader for this team as well, which is exciting."
