Spurs Women v Manchester United – Karen and Juan’s preview

Fri 09 October 2020, 19:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs Women will play for the third time in seven days when we host Manchester United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (WSL) tomorrow – kick-off is 12.30pm at The Hive.

After making a positive start in the Continental League Cup, Group B, with our first win of the season against London City Lionesses on Wednesday afternoon (7 October), Karen Hills and Juan Amoros' side are still on the hunt for their first league victory of the season, and face yet another tough task against Casey Stoney’s Red Devils in our early kick-off at the weekend.

Sitting fourth in the league, United have seven points from their opening three WSL fixtures after a hard-fought point against Chelsea in their opening game of the season, before convincing wins against Birmingham City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite being unbeaten in the league so far this season, United travel to The Hive following a midweek 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the Conti Cup.

We’re still learning and we’re having to learn very quickly with all the games coming thick and fast.

Karen Hills

“We know United are a strong side who have shown that they can compete with the top teams in this division and they have recruited well in the transfer window too, bringing some more world class players into their squad,” Karen commented. “We’ve had a tough run, but our game against London City Lionesses was an opportunity for us to try to be a bit more dominant on the ball and it was all about us having a performance that we can be proud of, having a little bit of confidence and I thought the girls were excellent and thoroughly deserved that win.

"We’re still learning and we’re having to learn very quickly with all the games coming thick and fast, but we believe in each other, and our qualities, and know we can compete in this fantastic league. Hopefully we can build on our midweek performance and take our momentum into the game tomorrow.”

You can see that things are starting to come together for us in our performances.

Juan Amoros

On our start to the 2020/21 campaign, Juan said: “The results haven’t gone our way in the league so far and it’s been a big challenge, but we know we’re heading in the right direction. We had a positive result on Wednesday where we completely dominated the match and four different players got their names on the scoresheet and we also kept a clean sheet. We can’t forget that we’ve only played three league games so far this season against some of the strongest sides in this division, we’re still very early into the campaign, and you can see that things are starting to come together for us in our performances.

"We know we could have got more against West Ham, it was a narrow defeat against Everton who have just reached the Women’s FA Cup final, and against Man City, there were some decisions that didn’t go our way which had a big impact in the defeat. The way we are working has been very positive so hopefully we can get some points on the board soon and make our fans proud.”

Fans can watch our clash with the Red Devils tomorrow on BT Sport 3 and The FA Player.
