We scored 31 goals in our first 10 games this season, but one was enough for three precious points at Turf Moor on Monday night.

Jose Mourinho knew what to expect from Burnley, and the game was every bit as attritional as he predicted, with clear-cut chances at a premium and the one that mattered converted by Heung-Min Son on 76 minutes.

Sonny’s eighth goal in the Premier League this term proved decisive, as he combined again with Harry Kane. This time, Harry flicked on Erik Lamela’s corner and Sonny planted a header into the top corner. It was a night to be solid, together and clinical when the chance arrived - and we delivered on all fronts, Burnley coming closest when Harry cleared James Tarkowski’s header off the line just five minutes before Sonny’s goal.

“It’s the same points as 6-1 at Old Trafford,” said Jose. “I told Sky before the game I knew that this was not the game to score three, four or five goals, I knew.

“They need points, Sean (Dyche, Burnley manager) is very experienced, he knows his players better than anyone, he knows how to try to stop the better teams to play the football they want - I knew.

“They press very well, they defend very well, their two strikers are very aggressive and it's the kind of opponent that in any moment, a long ball in the box or a set-piece and they can score, so it was about being solid and we were that, and it was about getting one of the chances we had. We didn't have many, we scored one and we have three points - very important points.”

It was put to Jose that this was a victory of a squad together. “All of them did their jobs in a very difficult match,” he added. “It's not the football we want to play, but it's the football that Burnley push you to play and if you don't cope with it, you are in trouble.

“It's a team, it's the feeling of a team and I felt that even when we 'lost' against West Ham. We 'lost' against West Ham - I like to say that. Even when we 'lost' against West Ham, I felt that the team was there, and the team felt the pain together and coped with the pain together and today, when we were 1-0 up, I felt calm, I felt that the spirit was there.”
