Joe Hart: “6-1 - but you can’t enjoy it too much!”

Fri 09 October 2020, 12:36|Tottenham Hotspur

Joe Hart knows a thing or two about 6-1 wins at Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper played in the now infamous Manchester derby when City beat United by the same scoreline in October, 2011, United’s heaviest defeat in the Premier League. City went on to win the title on goal difference thanks to Sergio Aguero’s late winner against QPR on the last weekend of the season.

Fast-forward nine years, and Joe was there again, this time on the bench having joined us from Burnley this summer.

It’s onto the next one against West Ham, that’s the next important game, then we'll move on again from there.

Now 33, and approaching 550 career appearances, on top of his 75 England caps, Joe has played twice for us so far and has seen it all before - and he knows it’s all about the next game, football’s mantra.

“You can’t enjoy it too much,” he said, speaking to us after training on Thursday. “At the end of the day, it’s three points. Doing it before, that was what I was really keen to hit home about.

“It’s all very well getting one good victory in a season, but a 1-0 is just as good.

“It was nice to score the goals, but it is what it is, and it’s onto the next one against West Ham, that’s the next important game, then we'll move on again from there. You enjoy it for that afternoon or evening, and then it’s done.”
