App exclusive - key goals from Kane's 150 in the Premier League
Fri 13 November 2020, 21:01|Tottenham Hotspur
In scoring the late, late winner in last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over West Brom, Harry Kane notched up his 150th goal in the Premier League.
Just over eight years ago, Harry had his first brief taste of top flight action when he made a late cameo appearance against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Six months later, he had his first start in the competition, but it wasn’t until April of 2014 before he got a run of games in the team – and immediately the goals started to pour in.
A run of three goals in three games at the end of the 2013/14 season got him underway in the league. There was still work to do for the striker, but in the following campaign he hit 21 league goals – no Spurs player has ever scored more than that in a single Premier League season. Harry then went on to smash that record in each of the next three campaigns with 25, 29 and then 30 in 2017/18.
This season, he’s well on his way to reaching those heights once more with seven goals already to his name after just eight outings in the league. In light of Harry’s latest milestone, we take a look back at the landmark strikes which have helped to make up his 150 Premier League goals...
First Premier League goal
7 April, 2014 - Spurs 5-1 Sunderland
Harry's first Premier League goal came as he made his first Spurs start. Visitors to White Hart Lane Sunderland had taken a surprise lead in the Monday night clash through Lee Cattermole, but it didn’t take us long to get back on terms through Emmanuel Adebayor. Then Harry turned the game on its head as he deftly finished off Christian Eriksen’s delivery to put us in front. The creative Dane then added a third, Adebayor grabbed a second for himself before Gylfi Sigurdsson wrapped up the night as he flicked home the fifth late on.
First north London derby goal
7 February, 2015 - Spurs 2-1 Arsenal
Harry has scored 10 goals in 11 league games against our north London rivals - and the first two of those came in his maiden encounter with the Gunners back in 2015. Arsenal had taken the lead in the game through Mesut Ozil, but Harry fired us level as he reacted quickest to slot home the rebound from Jan Vertonghen’s saved header. Then, with just four minutes remaining, the striker timed his leap superbly to nod home Nabil Bentaleb’s cross and send the Lane into utter delirium.
First Premier League hat-trick
21 March, 2015 - Spurs 4-3 Leicester City
A quick-fire double set Harry away against Leicester City in 2015 for his first of eight Premier League hat-tricks to date. Scoring his first of the day as he tapped in from Eric Dier’s flick-on in the sixth minute, the forward got his second with not even a quarter-of-an-hour gone, looping the ball in from 12 yards out. Leicester clawed their way back level in the game through Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan. That did not put our number 10 off though as he went on to restore our lead on 64 minutes, completing his treble as he converted from the penalty spot. An own goal from Jeffrey Schlupp then gave us breathing room with six minutes remaining in the encounter before David Nugent made it a tense final few moments as he pulled a third back for Leicester in the final minute of normal time.
25th goal
26 September, 2015 – Spurs 4-1 Manchester City
Harry opened his account for the 2015/16 season – a year in which he went on to win his first Golden Boot with 25 goals – with his 25th Premier League goal in our colours. Coming on a memorable afternoon against Manchester City, Harry tucked home our third as we came from behind to romp to a 4-1 victory against the Citizens. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring as he drilled City in front on 25 minutes but, on the stroke of half-time, the Belgian midfielder made a mistake that allowed us back into the contest, sloppily clearing the ball to Dier who lashed home from range. Toby Alderweireld then put us in front just after the break before Harry was on hand to loop home the rebound after Eriksen crashed his free-kick against the crossbar, just after the hour mark. Erik Lamela then wrapped up the three points as he waltzed around Willy Caballero before rolling the ball home.
Securing his first Golden Boot
2 May, 2016 – Chelsea 2-2 Spurs
Opening the scoring on an ultimately disappointing night at Stamford Bridge gave Harry the crucial 25th goal that won him the Premier League Golden Boot in 2015/16. We had gone into the clash with London rivals Chelsea knowing we had to win each of our final three games of the season to have a chance of overtaking leaders Leicester City. Breaking the deadlock on 35 minutes, Harry took the ball around Blues goalkeeper Asmir Begovic with ease before slotting home. Heung-Min Son then fired home our second nine minutes later. Yet, Chelsea rallied back, halving the deficit just before the hour mark through Gary Cahill before Eden Hazard equalised for the hosts with just eight minutes left in a game famously dubbed the 'Battle of the Bridge'.
50th goal
10 September, 2016 – Stoke City 0-4 Spurs
In the second of our 4-0 wins over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium in 2016, Harry reached his half-century of Premier League goals. Having scored a double in the April meeting between the sides in Staffordshire, the forward was once again on target as we headed back up M6 in the September. Son prodded home our opener on 41 minutes before doubling our advantage 11 minutes into the second half with a delightful curled finish. Dele made it three, stroking home three minutes later, before Sonny played in Harry to slot home our fourth on 70 minutes.
75th goal
18 May, 2017 – Leicester City 1-6 Spurs
As part of his four-goal haul against Leicester City at the end of the 2016/17 season, Harry fired home his 75th Premier League goal. Starting off the night on 71 goals in the competition, the striker opened the scoring at the King Power Stadium on 25 minutes as he guided in Son’s cut-back before our South Korean star doubled our lead with a half-volley 11 minutes later. On the hour mark, our advantage was halved with Ben Chilwell slotting in but, in little time at all, Harry had restored our two-goal cushion as he nodded in on 63 minutes. Sonny then got his second eight minutes later as he curled in from range before our number 10 drilled in twice in the final minutes from almost the exact same spot on the edge of the box to add goal numbers 74 and 75.
Spurs' record Premier League goalscorer
13 January, 2018 - Spurs 4–0 Everton
In a dominant performance against Everton at Wembley, Harry scored a double to take him clear of Teddy Sheringham and become our record goalscorer in Premier League history. Son had opened the scoring for us in the first half, tapping home on 26 minutes, before he turned provider for Harry two minutes into the second half for the striker to equal Teddy’s record with his 97th Premier League goal. Then, 11 minutes later, the striker then went one better as he turned in Dier’s teasing cross from close range to make him our outright highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 98 strikes to his name. The 4-0 win over the Toffees was then wrapped up by an Eriksen goal late on.
100th Premier League goal
4 February, 2018 – Liverpool 2-2 Spurs – Premier League
Very soon after overtaking Sheringham to become our record goalscorer in the Premier League, Harry entered the competition’s 100 club with a goal against Liverpool. In an action-packed game at Anfield, our hosts had taken the lead within just three minutes through Mo Salah, but we rallied after that early setback and took the game to the Reds.
Chance after chance came for us before an unforgettable rocket from Victor Wanyama brought us level with 10 minutes left. We then missed a great chance to win the game as Loris Karius saved Harry’s penalty, only for Liverpool to go down the other end and retake the lead in injury time – a second for Salah. But, Harry would come to our rescue deep, deep into added time as we were awarded another penalty and, from the spot, our number 10 made no mistake as he slotted home our equaliser and his 100th goal in the Premier League.
125th goal
9 March, 2019 – Southampton 2-1 Spurs
Harry’s 125th Premier League goal came on a disappointing afternoon for us on the south coast against then relegation-threatened Southampton. We had dominated in the first period and Harry duly gave us the lead, firing home from the angle after his run into the box was cleverly picked out by Dele – that was the striker's 200th goal of his career. Yet, in the second half, late goals from Yan Valery and James Ward-Prowse saw us fall to our first defeat at St Mary’s in 14 years.
150th Premier League goal
8 November, 2020 – West Brom 0-1 Spurs
Having scored his 200th Spurs goal against Ludogorets just three days earlier, Harry went on to score his 150th in the Premier League against West Brom last Sunday. In a tough trip to the newly-promoted side, we were made to battle for all three points in a tight encounter at the Hawthorns but, in the final minutes of the game, Harry eventually found our winner. With the introductions of forwards Lucas Moura and Carlos Vinicius from the bench on 82 minutes, space was freed up in the attacking third and our number 10 duly capitalised on it. Matt Doherty stood up the ball for the forward from the right and with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone caught in no man’s land, Harry simply nodded the ball over the Baggies’ number one and in.
