Stadium picks up mondo*dr award

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has received an award in the Stadium category at the mondo*dr Awards 2020.

The awards were launched by mondo*dr magazine in 2017 to recognise and celebrate the best installation projects from around the globe.

Award categories include nightclubs, bars and restaurants, theatres, concert halls, places of worship, stadiums, areas and parks and attractions.

Populous, our stadium architects, put the project forward for the award, which saw us nominated alongside:
- Allianz Arena
- Croke Park
- Emirates Old Trafford (Lancashire CCC)
- Hanazono Rugby Stadium
- King Power Stadium
- Melbourne Cricket Ground
- Mohammed V Stadium
- Noevir Stadium
- Philips Stadion
- Suzhou Olympic Sports Center
- Shanghai International Circuit
- Stade Roland Garros

At present, with football and other events no longer the priority during the COVID-19 pandemic, our stadium has been handed over to our NHS.

Familiar player areas have been transformed into a facility for North Middlesex Hospital’s Women’s Outpatient Services, assisting the redirection of pregnant women away from the hospital itself.

Our huge basement car park is being used to accommodate drive-through COVID-19 testing – the first stadium in London to be used for this purpose.

Meanwhile, our ‘pitch pocket’ is being used as a food distribution hub by Haringey Council, working with the London Food Alliance to ensure produce reaches the most vulnerable and in-need within our community.

Recognition for our stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has now picked up 13 industry awards since its opening in April 2019, across categories including structural engineering, architecture, building design, branding and wayfinding, and inclusivity:

• WIN (World Interiors News) Gold Award – for the general concourse design in the Leisure and Entertainment Interiors category

• WAN (World Architecture News) Bronze Award – for architecture in the Leisure category
• Structural Steel Design Awards 2019 - Project of the Year
• The Institution of Structural Engineers Award for Long-Span Structures
• The Institution of Structural Engineers Award for Supreme Award for Engineering Excellence
