Lucas Moura says the players will “give everything” for the rest of the season after suffering Champions League heartache in Germany.

Our round of 16 tie ended with an unflattering 4-0 scoreline after RB Leipzig won Tuesday’s second leg 3-0, the valiant efforts of our depleted side going unrewarded on a challenging night on the continent.

“The feeling is really bad, everyone is sad,” admitted attacker Lucas. “It was a difficult night for us, a difficult moment, but I think we need to be proud because we fought until the end, we played against a very good team and we tried everything that we could but that’s football. We need to keep our heads up and keep fighting.”

We made our intentions clear from the off at the RB Arena with a lively start, but a brace from Marcel Sabitzer before half-time left us 2-0 down on the night and 3-0 down on aggregate. Emil Forsberg netted with his first touch after coming on as a substitute in the last few minutes to complete the scoring for the Bundesliga challengers.

“We started the game very well but after the first and especially the second goal it was much harder,” explained Lucas. “In the second half we tried everything, we tried to press them high and get ourselves back into the game but it wasn’t possible. We created some opportunities but we couldn’t score.

“What can I say? We need to rest now because now we have only the Premier League and we need to arrive in the top four. We will give everything for this.”
