Ledley surprises record-breaking ‘Virtual Pub Quiz’ host

Ledley King has made a surprise video call to Jay Flynn, the Spurs fan behind the record-breaking ‘Virtual Pub Quiz’, to congratulate him on his incredible efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

Since March, Jay has become a global online sensation, reaching millions of households and raising over £500,000 for charities via his quizzes.

“It started off as a joke for friends in my local area,” he told Ledley. “I’ve run pub quizzes before and I wanted to do something for them... I set up a Facebook event that was public by mistake and it went viral!”

Fast forward three months and Jay has broken the Guinness World Record for most viewers of a live-stream quiz - 182,513 - involved celebrities as guest hosts and received an award from the Prime Minister.

Most importantly, he has raised vital funds for charities at this difficult time, including The Connection at St Martin’s, who helped him get back on his feet after experiencing homelessness.

Jay’s support of the Club and membership of our North West Spurs Official Supporters’ Club has been proudly displayed as he entertains the nation, with Ledley spotting the Spurs scarf in the background of his first quiz.

Jay then reflected on some of his best Spurs memories, including the 1991 FA Cup Final and watching Ledley lift the League Cup in 2008.

Having achieved so much during lockdown, our former skipper finished by asking what’s next for the popular quiz host.

Jay replied: “I just want to keep going and keep supporting the charities. £500,000 is an incredible amount, but with the platform I’ve got I just want to keep moving it forward.”
