"Job done" is how Harry Kane summed up our final day 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Having powered ourselves into contention for a Europa League place towards the end of our Premier League campaign with four wins from our last five games, we headed to Selhurst Park knowing we still needed to pick up at least a point if we were to assure ourselves of European football for next season.

Harry, who celebrates his 27th birthday today, continued his impressive goalscoring run in the encounter as he put us ahead in the early stages in south London with a trademark finish – his fifth goal in his last three outings. Despite our bright start however, the spoils were shared at full-time in SE25 as, just after the break, the Eagles pegged us back through Jeffrey Schlupp's close-range effort.

Yet, a point was all we needed in the end as it helped us to leapfrog Wolves into sixth place in the league table, securing us a European spot. And, while our number 10 knows we still have a lot to improve on ahead of the return of football in September, he believes that, for now, we can be happy with the endeavour we have shown to meet that objective.

We can go away happy, at least we’re playing in four competitions next season but there’s still a lot to improve on.

“Obviously the draw was enough in the end. I don’t think we played as well as we would have liked but in the back end of the second half, we heard the results that were going on elsewhere and we knew the draw would be enough to get European football – and that was the aim,” our home-grown striker explained.

“We saw the game out well but, obviously, there's still a lot to improve on going into next year. We got ahead quite early and then we just probably didn’t keep the ball well enough, too many mistakes. Then in the second half when they scored, after that, we kind of picked it back up again and played a bit better.

“Overall, it was not the greatest performance but we got the job done. We came here to get Europa League football and we’ve done that. That wasn’t the aim at the start of the season but as it has gone on, it’s been an up and down year for all of us.

“(Going into) the last four or five games, it looked unlikely but obviously winning three or four of them and then getting the result here that we needed was enough. We can go away happy, at least we’re playing in four competitions next season but there’s still a lot to improve on.”
