Jose Mourinho couldn’t fault the team’s attitude but pointed to a lack of sharpness in the final third as we were held to a goalless draw at Bournemouth on Thursday evening.

We got into good positions numerous times without turning that possession into chances. Erik Lamela glanced our best chance wide in the second half, although things might have been different if a VAR decision had gone our way inside the first five minutes when Joshua King looked to have pushed Harry Kane as he went for Steven Bergwijn’s corner.

VAR also ruled out Callum Wilson’s ‘goal’ for handball late on and Hugo Lloris saved the best chance of the game from Harry Wilson’s one-on-one deep into added time.

Jose told Spurs TV afterwards: "I thought the crucial moment of the game was minute four or five. When you play against a team that, surprisingly, was very defensive you need to break them and when you can break them in the beginning of the game, the game changes completely.

One thing is a lack of attitude and another thing is a lack of sharpness. Today was not a lack of attitude at all...

“We had a big occasion to break them in the first four or five minutes, then after that they got some confidence, they got some stability, they defended very well and for the majority of the period of the game we were not sharp enough - I would use the words 'sharp enough' - because one thing is a lack of attitude and another thing is a lack of sharpness. Today was not a lack of attitude at all.

“I felt that some of the boys were really tired. I made a couple of changes, especially in midfield because I felt some of the boys there were in trouble by playing two days before.

“In attacking areas, we lacked a bit of sharpness, decisions... we had a lot of situations in the last third, but not really, apart from the last minutes, not really shots, not attacking the ball with so many crosses, other crosses we had the positions but not the technical quality to execute the assist with efficiency. In the end, it’s quite frustrating, but that’s the way it is.”
