Harry Kane: "That's the standard we have to set"

Mon 20 July 2020, 12:35|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane was impressed with the clinical nature of our 3-0 victory against Leicester City on Sunday.

The striker led the way with two finishes out of the top drawer as we ran away with it in the first half at the new stadium.

We were off to the perfect start when Harry sent away Heung-Min Son on six minutes, his shot deflected home off James Justin. Harry turned provider to goalscorer with two exquisite finishes, left foot across goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel for 2-0, then a right-foot curler for the third to wrap it up before half-time.

It was our third win on the trot in the Premier League, our fourth successive victory at home and fifth win in eight since the Premier League's return, moving us to sixth in the table ahead of Wolves, who face Palace on Monday evening.

“It was a really good first half,” said Harry. “We caught them on the counter-attack and were clinical with our chances, soaked up the pressure... look, maybe we dropped a little too deep in the second half but we won the game 3-0, another clean sheet and we’ll take that momentum going forward.

“We knew there would be spaces when we won the ball back, and our goals were counter-attacks, so we exploited that well. Once you get the chances, you have to take them. We had three shots on target, three goals and that’s the standard we have to set.”

Harry’s double took him to 23 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions, 17 in 28 in the Premier League, this season - and he wants to finish 2019/20 in style with the season’s finale at Palace on Sunday (4pm).

“One more to go, so we’re not done yet,” he added. “We’ve won the last three, which is great, but it would be a shame to miss out on a (European) spot if we lose next week. We’ll have a nice week’s rest now and try to finish the season with a win.”
