Frustration was the name of the game for Hugo Lloris as we were held to a goalless draw at Bournemouth on Thursday evening.

In a game of few chances, we failed to capitalise on a number of promising positions, with Erik Lamela’s header just off target in the second half our best chance. Hugo later saved the best opportunity in the match when Harry Wilson raced through one-on-one in added time.

VAR also played a part in the stalemate, as our appeals for an early penalty were waved away and then Callum Wilson was denied a 'goal' for handball late in the game.

A third clean sheet in four games is a positive, and Hugo and the defence held firm during spells of pressure from the home side, but that wasn’t enough for maximum points on the night.

“There is a lot of frustration, obviously, in the way the game turned out, with another decision against us, unfortunately, one that would have changed the game, but we have no excuses,” said skipper Hugo.

Now we need to move on, there is another game on Sunday and every point matters in this period of the season

“We should be able to do more and do better, especially in the final third. We had a lot of opportunities in the final third but didn’t create too much... that’s not to point a finger at one or another player.

“In terms of spirit, there is nothing to say, compared to Sheffield we were in the battle. Sometimes it was in an ugly way, but we responded very well. But of course, we should have been capable of doing more with the ball. There were plenty of offensive transitions that were about decisions, about passing the ball or taking your chance or taking responsibility to have a shot.

“It’s true that Bournemouth defended very well and were very compact as soon as they lost the ball. They are still fighting for safety so it means so much for them and in the end, it could have turned both ways, we could have won, could have lost.

“The positives are about another clean sheet and that we’re still in a European race. Now we need to move on, there is another game on Sunday and every point matters in this period of the season. It’s going to be a big battle again and we have to be ready.”
