Spurs fan MORGAN shooting for the stars

Tue 07 January 2020, 13:58|Tottenham Hotspur

What a whirlwind 18 months it's been for Spurs fan MORGAN.

The singer-songwriter has gone from a period in her career she describes as ‘when things went quiet’ after appearing in the semi-finals of Britian’s Got Talent in 2016 to signing for Rudimental’s Major Tom label, appearing on Rudimental and Preditah’s huge summer track ‘Mean That Much’ and touring the world with one of the biggest acts around - to pitchside at the new stadium.

“This is amazing,” she said, as she connected with fans in the south west corner of the stadium. “I’ve been a die-hard fan since I was very little - my dad made me! - so this is special. I love it. The stadium is massive, isn’t it? It’s so slick.

“It was Spurs or nothing in our family! My brother supports Spurs, most of my family support Tottenham. It’s in the blood. It’s great to be here. It’s so atmospheric, beautiful. I love it. I’d love to perform here one day, of course! Maybe when I’ve got my own album out!”

MORGAN follows in the footsteps of an incredible array of talent - Anne-Marie, Jess Glynne, James Arthur, Stefflon Don, Rita Ora, MNEK, John Newman, Emeli Sande, Ella Eyre... and Ed Sheeran. What do they all have in common? They’ve all collaborated with Rudimental.

“They are brilliant,” said MORGAN. “They’ve helped me so much, picked me up when I really needed to be picked up and when things went quiet, they signed me, and I’ve toured with them all over the world this year. It’s been amazing.

“I did a Live Lounge (Radio 1) and I was like ‘oh my God, I can’t believe I’m even doing this’ and being on TV and performing at festivals has been amazing. I’ve been to Asia, Australia, Europe and I’ve loved it.”

After the success of ‘Mean That Much’, MORGAN's debut EP is slated for release early this year. “Hopefully, I’m going to be soaring after this,” she said. “A prime example is Anne-Marie. She’s massive and Rudimental pushed her through, so that’s the aim. Everything made so much sense when I met them. I bonded with them. They are like my brothers.”

There was one drawback though... “The majority of them are Arsenal fans, but we don’t want to say that word here! I’ve left the group chat a few times. If we lose, I get it in the ear, a lot!”

There were also words of advice for young talent out there. "It’s easy to let people’s negative opinions get on top of you. Focus on what you are doing and ignore everything else. Always take advice, don’t think you know everything, but keep your head screwed on and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something - you can!"
