We travel to St Mary's for the second time this month on Saturday as we face Southampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup (3pm).

The Saints beat us 1-0 in the Premier League on New Year's Day and continue to impress with just one defeat in eight in all competitions - and that was after leading Wolves 2-0 last weekend!

Here's the latest on Ralph Hasenhuttl's side...

Team news

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed he will be without three key members of his squad ahead of our meeting on Saturday.

Full-back Cedric and forward Shane Long have been ruled out of the game with knee injuries sustained during the week, while centre-back Jannik Vestergaard will also be unavailable with a concussion.

Saints’ FA Cup journey so far...

Entering the competition in the third round with every other Premier League and Championship side, Southampton secured their progress to round four with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield at St Mary’s. 19-year-old Will Smallbone opened the scoring on his debut for the Saints before fellow academy graduate Jake Vokins sealed the triumph with a late second.

Saints’ league form

When we last faced Southampton on 1 January, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were in resurgent form in the Premier League after enduring a tough start to the season. That day we were beaten 1-0 and the south coast outfit have continued to impress. Three games, two wins and just one defeat have followed for Hasenhuttl’s side. Both victories came away from home at high-flying Leicester City (2-1) and Crystal Palace (2-0) while they were on the losing side at St Mary’s against Wolves (2-3) despite leading 2-0.

One to watch

A key component in Southampton’s turnaround this season has been the midfield presence of Stuart Armstrong. Five of his nine starts in the Premier League have ended in victory and while his ability to transition the ball from defence to attack has been key, he has also been adding goals to his game in recent weeks. Having not scored in any of his first 15 appearances of the season, he has found the target twice in his last three games.

Played for both

Making almost 400 appearances for us in eight years at White Hart Lane, 18th in our list of all-time appearances for the Club, Paul Allen became a legend in N17 before departing for Southampton in 1993. A product of West Ham United’s academy, the Essex-born midfielder joined us in 1985 from the Hammers after winning the FA Cup with them as a 17-year-old in 1980 and promotion to Division One the following season. A mainstay of our side, he helped us win the FA Cup in 1991, his performances recognised by lifting the Club's Player of the Year that season. Paul departed north London for the Saints two years later before having spells at Luton, Stoke, Swindon, Bristol City and Millwall.
