We welcome Norwich City to N17 for the first time in just over four years on Wednesday night as the Canaries make their first-ever trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (7.30pm kick-off).

The last time our upcoming opponents visited Tottenham we stormed to a 3-0 win with a brace from Harry Kane and a late strike from Tom Carroll on Boxing Day of 2015.

Team news

Defender Ben Godfrey will be unavailable for Daniel Farke's side through suspension after he was dismissed late on in his side’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Ralf Farhmann (knee), Emiliano Buendia (quadriceps) and Mario Vranic (chin) will also miss the game through injury.

Norwich’s form

The Canaries returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth having previously failed to secure a victory in the league since November. That last set of three points came in an away win at Everton before a run of nine games without a victory followed (4D, 5L).

New faces

Two new signings have been brought in by Norwich so far in this transfer window with two central midfielders arriving from the Bundesliga. German Lukas Rupp has joined permanently from 1899 Hoffenheim while Slovakian Ondrej Duda has signed on loan from Hertha Berlin.

The numbers game

2 - We have won our last two Premier League home games against Norwich, 2-0 in September, 2013, and 3-0 in December, 2015.

15 - Away from home, Norwich haven’t won any of their last 15 evening kick-offs (7pm or later) in the Premier League, drawing five and losing 10, since winning 2-1 at Ipswich in September, 1994.

9 - We have won our last nine Premier League home games played on a Wednesday, since a 1-0 loss against Leicester in January, 2016.

7 - Norwich have failed to score in more different away games than any other Premier League side so far this season (seven). Indeed, the Canaries have netted just five goals in their 11 away games in 2019/20, fewer than any other side.

68 - Norwich’s Emiliano Buendía has created 68 chances in the Premier League this season, with only Kevin De Bruyne creating more (82). Buendía’s tally of 68 is 45 more than any other player for Norwich (Todd Cantwell, 23).

Played for both

Martin Chivers is fourth in our all-time top goalscorers chart with 174 goals in 367 appearances for us. Signed by legendary manager Bill Nicholson from Southampton in 1968, Martin went on to enjoy some of his best years in the game with us, playing up front with other Spurs legends such as Jimmy Greaves and Alan Gilzean.

A tall and commanding presence in the team, the forward scored plenty of important goals for us during his time at the Club, including a double in the 1971 League Cup Final success as well as a brace in the first leg of our 1972 UEFA Cup Final triumph. It was in Europe where he enjoyed some of his most memorable moments in a Spurs shirt as he scored 22 goals in just 32 appearances in competitions on the continent. He went on to help us to lift another League Cup in 1973 with victory over Norwich before later going on to wear the green and yellow shirt of the opposition in 1978 after a brief spell with Swiss side Servette.

The Southampton-born striker also scored 13 goals in 24 caps for England and, to this day, still plays his part at the Club as part of our matchday hospitality team.
