Brighton & Hove Albion v Spurs Women - Karen and Juan's preview

Fri 21 February 2020, 17:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs Women are back in league action this Sunday (23 February) with a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, kick off is 2pm at The People’s Pension Stadium.

Karen Hills and Juan Amoros’ side head into the match in high spirits after securing a place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup for the first time in our history with a convincing 5-0 win against Coventry United on Monday (17 February).

Our first ever Barclays FA Women’s Super League (WSL) meeting with the Seagulls back in December saw us run out 1-0 winners at The Hive as we secured three more crucial points.

We’re in a good place and we’ve been building momentum.

In the league table, Hope Powell’s side currently sit two places below us and both sides are in identical form with two wins and a draw from the last six league fixtures, hoping to increase the gap at the bottom of the table.

“We’re in a good place and we’ve been building momentum since our second half performance against Everton,” Head Coach Karen Hills said.

“We showed in that game how much character we have in our squad and the fight and determination we have to come back from 2-0 down to earn a draw.

“To reach the quarter-finals with our win against Coventry last Monday was a big moment for us, making history and it was another milestone for the team this season. It was a professional display with five goals, a clean sheet and now it’s about how we can keep that winning mentality going and be consistent. We know we have goals in us, we’ve scored some brilliant ones recently, but we must convert our chances on Sunday as getting another three points will be massive for us.”

They are a very good team and we are expecting a difficult encounter.

Juan Amoros

Head Coach Juan Amoros added: “I think the last time we played Brighton, it was one of our best performances of the season in terms of what we did on the ball. We were very dominant, and we came from a tough midweek game against Birmingham and it was a difficult one with the conditions and the win gave us a lot of confidence.

“In that meeting, we learned that they are a very competitive side, physical and well-organised, so we need to make sure that we match all those aspects and let the football do the talking. They are a team who are constantly growing and they have impressed at home in recent times with a victory over Everton and a draw against Manchester United. We know we can match them, and we have the ability to overcome them on the day. They are a very good team and we are expecting a difficult encounter on Sunday, we’ll need to leave everything on the pitch in order to get the win.”
