Harry Winks felt we were always in control at Stoke - with our quality taking us into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

We dominated at the bet365 Stadium, led 1-0 at half-time via Gareth Bale’s deft header and may well have put the issue beyond doubt in the first half but for goalkeeper Andy Lonergan saving twice from Dele.

However, Stoke had us on the back foot for a moment when they equalised through Jordan Thompson on 53 minutes, their first attempt at goal, prompting their best spell.

Thankfully, Ben Davies fired home from 25 yards to restore the lead before Harry Kane rifled home the clincher for 3-1 with 10 minutes remaining. We now take on Brentford at home in the semi-final (ties week commencing 4 January, details TBC) while Manchester City and United face-off in the other tie.

It’s a positive night for us and it’s important we enjoy it, but then we need to get ready for Wolves as the games come thick and fast now

“We needed Ben’s goal, needed it,” said Winksy, who impressed and was named Man of the Match. “That was in a little spell where it could have gone either way. Ben’s come out with a great finish and he deserved that, he played really well. That gave us the lift to go on and get the third.

“It was a tough match, difficult conditions against a good, aggressive side. To come away with the win was important for us and we’re happy with the way we did it, as well.

“We dominated. They had spells where they created a couple of opportunities, but they are going to do that, they are a good side, but I felt we were in control, aggressive, on the front foot, matched their energy and the quality of the team eventually shone through.”

Winksy is a Spurs fan who came through the system - what would it mean for him to get to the final? “It would be massive. We know it’s going to be tough in the semi-finals (against Brentford) but we’ll be ready.”
