Birthday boy Skippy welcomes children #BackToSchool

Birthday boy Oliver Skipp today (Monday 16 September) visited Ferry Lane Primary School in Tottenham to join a Premier League Primary Stars lesson and encourage children to get active on their return from the summer holidays.

Skippy, who has recently completed his A-Levels, helped staff from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation deliver a classroom lesson and football session for a Year 5 class as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme the Club runs in local schools across Haringey.

The children welcomed Oliver, who turned 19 today, into their school by singing Happy Birthday to him and presenting him with handmade birthday cards and a cake.

Club staff spend one day a week in schools across the Club’s local community delivering Premier League Primary Stars which provides PE support to teachers to help them feel more confident and gain an increased knowledge in delivering quality physical activity and sport lessons.

Since August, 2016, the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has inspired over 4,700 children in schools across North London and Hertfordshire to learn through the Premier League Primary Stars programme, working with over 230 teachers.

Oliver said: “Studying for exams while playing professional football is not always easy. It takes a huge amount of determination and commitment, however if you put your mind to something you can achieve anything you want. It’s important that children have access to quality education and regular sport within the school gates, so it’s great to see Tottenham Hotspur Foundation giving back to the local community to make it easier for local children to access sport.”

Lisa Rawashdeh, Head Teacher at Ferry Lane Primary School, said: “It’s been fantastic welcoming Oliver Skipp to our school today. The children have loved having the opportunity to ask him questions about his life as a professional footballer and how he balances his studying with his playing commitments. We are delighted to be working with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation this academic year and I know both children and teachers will find their sessions invaluable.”
