Heung-Min Son: “I was hurt, just like the fans”

Thu 03 October 2019, 15:57|Tottenham Hotspur

There was no hiding Heung-Min Son’s feelings as he trudged off after Tuesday night’s Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich.

A little over 90 minutes earlier, he’d opened the scoring as we went toe-to-toe with the Bundesliga champions. The atmosphere was electric, we played well, further chances came and went and even when Bayern took the lead just before half-time, you felt it was very much game on.

How things changed. A quickfire double put the visitors in charge at 4-1 10 minutes into the second half and three late goals left us reeling at 7-2. That scoreline cut deep.

The best way is to go to Brighton and fight for every ball, fight in every situation, try to get a good result and bring home the three points

“I was hurt, just like the fans,” said Sonny, reflecting back at Hotspur Way after training on Thursday. “I felt that pain. It was a bad result and I didn’t want to believe it.

"I was thinking ‘please, is this just a bad dream?’ but what can we do now? It was so disappointing, sad, everything negative, but we have to carry on.”

We’ll do just that when we return to Premier League action in Saturday’s early kick-off (12.30pm) at Brighton.

“Football can change so quickly,” added Sonny. “We have a game every three days and I believe we can turn it around. We’re together and we carry on, work harder. The best way is to go to Brighton and fight for every ball, fight in every situation, try to get a good result and bring home the three points.”
