Our stadium will be illuminated pink tonight and tomorrow night (Thursday and Friday) as the Club uses its new home and the capital’s newest landmark to make a statement of support for people affected by breast cancer.
The illumination will be seen across London and, on Friday, thousands of people across the country will wear pink in their communities, schools and workplaces in support of Breast Cancer Now’s ‘wear it pink’ day.
Since 2002, ‘wear it pink’ has raised over £33million for vital breast cancer research. This year, the money raised will help Breast Cancer Now fund world-class breast cancer research and life-changing support.
Every year in the UK, around 55,000 women and around 370 men are given the devastating news that they have breast cancer. Despite great strides in research and care, around 11,500 women and 80 men still die from breast cancer every year.
Breast Cancer Now currently funds around a third of all breast cancer research happening in the UK, and last year the charity responded to nearly seven million breast cancer support requests. The generosity of ‘wear it pink’ supporters will help Breast Cancer Now to continue to fund world-class research and life-changing support services in the future.
Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has also been working to help improve the health and wellbeing of those living with breast cancer within our local community through the delivery of Move4You.
Over the past five years, the project has supported over 1,500 people living with and beyond all forms of cancer to be physically activity during and after treatment, with the help of specialised fitness instructors.
One participant said: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and joined Move4You following treatment. I looked forward to the programme each week, the instructor was very helpful and knowledgeable, it was great to have that one-to-one support. During the programme I unfortunately had some health setbacks, but despite this I continued to complete the programme and now try to exercise on a regular basis. I believe exercise has helped both mind and body, to maintain a positive attitude and obtain physical fitness despite the setbacks.”
