Heung-Min Son has today (Monday 2 December) been named AFC Asian International Player of the Year for a record third time.
The South Korean international star previously collected the accolade in 2015 and 2017 and has now completed a hat-trick after another fantastic year for Club and country.
He was confirmed to have won at today’s AFC Annual Awards ceremony in Hong Kong.
Sonny scored his 19th Spurs goal of 2019 in our recent 3-2 win at West Ham United.
Among his other highlights of the year, he scored the first-ever first team goal inside our new stadium as we beat Crystal Palace on opening night in April and swiftly followed that up with the first European goal there – one of three over two legs in our Champions League quarter-final epic against Manchester City.
A starter in the Champions League Final defeat to Liverpool in Madrid in June, he has scored nine goals in all competitions for us so far this season.
Captain of the South Korea national team, he led his nation to the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup in January and continues to lead them in their bid to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
