Internationals - Troy's debut, Sonny held

Thu 14 November 2019, 22:56|Tottenham Hotspur

Thursday was a proud night for young striker Troy Parrott, who made his senior Republic of Ireland debut in a friendly against New Zealand in Dublin.

Academy graduate Troy, just 17, started and claimed an assist in a 63-minute shift in the Republic's 3-1 win at the Aviva Stadium.

Troy was denied by New Zealand goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic before setting up his team's second goal for Sean Maguire as ROI came from 1-0 down to win 3-1. They now face Denmark in a crucial Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday.

Staying with Euro 2020 qualifiers, Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko remained on the bench as France clinched their place in the finals with a 2-1 win against Moldova. Turkey's failure to beat Iceland in Group H saw Les Bleus home.

Elsewhere, Heung-Min Son captained South Korea again and played 90 minutes but his side were held to a goalless draw in Asian World Cup qualifying in Lebanon. However, there was good news later for Sonny as group rivals North Korea were beaten in Turkmenistan. South Korea remain top of Group H.

Victor Wanyama's Kenya claimed a creditable 1-1 draw against Egypt in African Nations qualifying.

Paris Maghoma started as England Under-19s kicked-off their European qualifying campaign with a 4-0 win in Luxembourg on Wednesday. In the same competition, Maxi Tainio played 63 minutes as Finland beat Denmark 2-1.

Dennis Cirkin played 87 minutes as England Under-18s beat Russia 5-2 in the first match of three in Spain while Japhet Tanganga played 80 minutes and Jack Clarke came off the bench just after the hour as England Under-20s toppled Portugal 4-0 in a friendly at Estadio Municipal de Agueda.
