Spotlight on the fans at this year's end-of-season awards

Mon 13 May 2019, 16:44|Tottenham Hotspur

After receiving a host of entries from Supporters’ Clubs in the UK and across the world, we were delighted to crown Ghana Spurs and Austin Spurs as winners of our two new fan awards at this year’s end-of-season celebration.

For the first time, this year’s Official Supporters’ Clubs Awards turned the spotlight on our fans and rewarded the clubs themselves for the incredible support and dedication they have shown us throughout the season. We asked clubs to submit videos and images of their memorable moments as well as the work they do to help good causes and charities in their communities, all in the name of Spurs.

After some tough decisions from our judges, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko, Ghana Spurs were deemed worthy winners of the Instagram Moment of the Year Award for their video entry showing their celebrations while watching the North London derby earlier this season.

Austin Spurs won the To Care Is To Do Award for helping Phoebe McGrath, a 10-year-old fan who lost her lucky scarf at a match. After seeing a tweet Phoebe’s father had posted asking fans if they could help, Austin Spurs offered their support by sending her their club scarf and contacted other Supporters’ Clubs asking if they could do the same. Consequently, Supporters’ Clubs from around the world sent their clubs scarfs and kind messages to the young fan.

The winners were announced at an exclusive awards ceremony held at the stadium on Saturday which was attended by Supporters’ Clubs from the UK and around the world.

The ceremony was attended by Ledley King, who gave a Q&A about his playing career and thanked Supporters’ Clubs for their support this season before presenting the awards to the winners. In addition to the fan awards, Heung-Min Son was announced as this year’s Official Supporters’ Clubs’ Player of the Season and winner of the Goal of the Season award for his marvellous solo effort in the 3-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley on 24 November. Oliver Ziller from Norway Spurs, our lucky winner of a prize draw, presented Sonny with his awards on the pitch after Sunday’s fixture against Everton.

After the awards ceremony, Supporters’ Clubs, many of whom were visiting for the first time, were treated to a tour of the stadium.

Congratulations to our winners and all of those who entered. Thank you to all our Supporters’ Clubs for their ongoing support.
