Coaches deliver football programme in Sri Lanka

Thu 14 March 2019, 16:06|Tottenham Hotspur

The Club has delivered an elite coaching clinic to 50 budding footballers in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as part of a groundbreaking football coaching programme which is delivered in partnership with AIA, our Global Principal Partner.

The aspiring professional players travelled from across the country to attend a training session taken by our coaches, Shaun Harris and Anton Blackwood.

While in Sri Lanka, our coaches also ran education, nutrition and leadership workshops to over 300 corporate organisations at AIA Sri Lanka’s Healthy Workplace Summit.

It forms part of a wider programme which operates across Asia-Pacific, with Shaun and Anton based permanently in Asia to work with players of all levels, nurturing local talent and promoting AIA’s initiative to encourage healthier, longer, better lives.

They identify talented players and coaches and create a pathway for them to progress to a professional level. They also run grassroots coaching sessions and nutritional workshops and, since May, 2017, have directly engaged with over 30,000 participants across Asia-Pacific.

Anton said: “It’s been an incredible experience, delivering football sessions to the players in Colombo. This was our first visit to Sri Lanka and we were extremely impressed with the quality of the players and talent on show. I hope our training session was a positive experience for the youngsters and they continue to hone the skills and techniques we taught them.”
