Serge Aurier captained Ivory Coast to a 1-0 victory over South Africa in their opening game at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cairo, Egypt on Monday afternoon.
Playing the full 90 minutes at right-back, Serge saw his nation pick up maximum points in Group D thanks to Jonathan Kodjia’s 64th-minute goal.
The result puts them level on points with Morocco, who beat Namibia by the same scoreline on Sunday.
Ivory Coast face Morocco on Friday, kick-off 6pm UK time.
Serge’s Spurs team-mate Victor Wanyama didn’t have as much luck in Kenya’s opening match of the tournament, however, as his nation lost 2-0 to Algeria on Sunday.
