Internationals - historic win for Davinson's Colombia

Sun 16 June 2019, 10:27|Tottenham Hotspur

Davinson Sanchez helped Colombia defeat Argentina for the first time in 12 years at the Copa America in Brazil on Saturday night.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes as his side kicked-off their campaign in Group B with a 2-0 victory, both goals coming in the last 19 minutes.

Davinson’s defensive colleague here at Spurs, Juan Foyth, was on the bench for Argentina but was not used, meaning the potential battle of club team-mates never materialised.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Serge Aurier’s Ivory Coast suffered a blow in their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 defeat to Uganda in Abu Dhabi.

Captain Serge played the full match at right-back, but saw his nation lose out to a 35th-minute penalty.
