Serge Aurier’s Africa Cup of Nations journey is over after Ivory Coast were beaten by Algeria on penalties in Thursday night’s quarter-final.
The right-back, whose tournament has been hampered by injuries, watched on as an unused substitute as his side went a goal behind through Algeria’s Sofiane Feghouli but fought back through Jonathan Kodjia to make it 1-1, forcing the tie into extra time.
With no further score, the game went to spot-kicks, but Algeria ran out 4-3 winners, booking a semi-final clash with Nigeria.
Serge played in two of Ivory Coast’s five games at the tournament.
