Internationals - another blow for Wanyama and Kenya

Tue 02 July 2019, 09:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Victor Wanyama’s Africa Cup of Nations hopes are hanging by a thread after 10-man Kenya suffered a 3-0 defeat to Senegal in Cairo on Monday night.

Our central midfielder once again captained his nation and played the full 90 minutes, but three second-half goals and the dismissal of team-mate Philemon Otieno saw Kenya handed their second defeat in three matches in Group C.

It means Kenya have finished third in their section and outside the automatic qualification places for the knockout rounds, but they could still edge through as one of the four best-ranked third-placed sides from the six groups if Benin and Angola fail to take any points from their last matches in their respective sections. Kenya have three points to their name after a 3-2 win over Tanzania on matchday two.

Elsewhere in the competition on Monday, Ivory Coast cemented second place in Group D and progression to the next stage with a 4-1 triumph over Namabia, but Serge Aurier missed out through injury.

Defender Juan Foyth will hope to feature for Argentina in their Copa America semi-final against host nation Brazil in the early hours of Wednesday morning (1.30am UK time).
