Winks: “These are the defeats that hurt”

Mon 14 January 2019, 13:02|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Winks took little consolation from his and the team’s display as we suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Manchester United on Sunday.

The midfielder impressed again as we gave everything without reward at Wembley.

David de Gea kept us at bay, racking up 11 saves as United took the points thanks to Marcus Rashford’s goal just before the break.

We piled on the pressure in the second half - described later by Mauricio Pochettino as the best 45 minutes of his time in charge - but it wasn’t to be, much to Winksy’s frustration.

The fact we lost is really disappointing, horrible. It’s difficult to take, a result we’re not happy with

“If you lose to a team that outplayed you and dominated you’d hold your hands up and say ‘okay’ but it’s frustrating because I thought we were the better team,” said Harry, who is now up to 90 first team appearances at the age of 22.

“It was a game we deserved to win in my opinion, the stats show that and it was a shame to concede in the manner we did on the counter-attack. That’s something we could have avoided, but you have to credit the team. I thought we were outstanding, we never gave in.

“You have to give credit to their goalkeeper as well, he was excellent. He won them the match. The fact we lost is really disappointing, horrible. It’s difficult to take, a result we’re not happy with.”
