Harry Kane: "It's a big week ahead, so we move on"

Sun 24 February 2019, 09:50|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane is back, fit and doing what he does best again - but that felt like little consolation after our 2-1 loss at Burnley on Saturday.

The striker was back in the starting line-up at Turf Moor on his return from injury – he’d missed seven games since damaging an ankle against United on 13 January – and back on target as we chased vital points in the Premier League.

Goal number 21 of the season looked like it might turn the tide against a resilient, competitive Burnley side who had taken the lead through Chris Wood on 57 minutes.

Harry showed strength and guile to take Danny Rose’s quickly-taken long throw in his stride, hold off Ben Mee and finish clinically.

That was after 65 minutes but despite holding sway in territory and possession, clear-cut chances remained at a premium and the home side snatched victory when Ashley Barnes poked home from close range with seven minutes remaining.

“It’s very disappointing,” said Harry. “It was one of those games, a tough battle, a dry pitch, we know how Burnley play, especially at home and it was physical.

“We did well to get back into it at 1-1 but we couldn’t find the next level to push on and get the win and then unfortunately we conceded again.

“It’s a game we should be winning. We had time off, so we were fresh and we expected to come here and step it up a level and give it a massive push for the rest of the season. Now it puts us behind and in a tough position. It’s a big week to come and we have to move on as best we can.”

Harry was referring to the week ahead - Chelsea away in the Premier League on Wednesday night (8pm), Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday (12.30pm) and the Champions League Round of 16 second leg at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday 5 March (8pm).

“It’s a big period for us and we know we are more than capable of winning these games,” he added. “Burnley was disappointing but we have to move on and it’s a big game against Chelsea next.”

As for how he felt after 90 minutes, Harry told us: “It was good to get the minutes, good to get the sharpness back and I felt good out there. We’ve a busy week coming up so it’s about recovering now. It’s up to the manager who plays but hopefully I can make myself available for the next one.”
